art buyers are people too

let's hear it for the unsung heroes of the agency world

We have a little obsession with Todd Jordan.  We particularly love his Katherine story.  We imagine that this must be someone who he loves. The simple and clean composition makes us happy.  It’s not trying to hard.  Katherine was a personal project that was published in PIG.  Check him out.

So, we keep meaning to write our own post, but Bobby Caputo is killing it with his finds this week.  Stop it!  No, don’t.  Don’t ever stop.

Someday we will be original again.

Brooke Holm Interior Photography

Brooke Holm seems to know her way around a camera. The Melbourne based photographer shoots fashion, interiors, food, landscapes and all sorts of other odds and ends. And judging by her portfolio, she seems to have boundless talent; an adeptness at capturing the beauty in whatever it is she sees. But as an interiors junkie, I have to admit, these are my favorites of the bunch. Her interior photos are perfectly cropped, and beautifully lit. Nice and cheery don’t you think? We actually recently featured some of her work, as she often shoots with Marsha Golemac, a prop stylist and fellow Aussie.

We’ve been watching Joanna McClure for a while now and were excited to see that she shot the holiday campaign for Kate Spade!  Perfect choice!  Joanna always has some sort of interesting project going on…sometimes it’s folding paper other times it’s a study of light.  She has a solid palette that is consistent throughout her work.  It’s nice to see her shooting commercially!

Just when I couldn’t wait any longer to share- it’s out!! Lots of hard work went into the Holiday campaign for Kate Spade. I shot all of the stills for the campaign and the website plus the category pages. Please check out www.katespade.com for more.

We also loved this from Erin Kunkel.  Hats off to Grey for letting her do her thing.  The edit is beautiful.  It just goes to show that when you give a photographer the freedom to shoot in her own style she will deliver beautiful imagery.  That’s not to say that collaboration should fall by the wayside…it’s just about the right fit.  Ya done good.

The Power of Print, for Canon and Grey WorldwideThis was a dream job- I spent a week in Sonoma and Napa counties creating images that tell the story of Wine Country through the five senses. The project culminated in an experiential, interactive pop-up gallery show hosted by chef Tyler Florence in San Francisco to launch Canon’s new Pixma Pro printer. In the age of being inundated with digital media, it was lovely to see big, beautiful prints of my work, and to have viewers experience the images in a more tactile way. I’ve never had an ad job with so much creative freedom - we had one conference call, I texted a few behind the scenes images from the road, and I loved their final edit. Thank you Grey!  I owe a lot of the success of the images not only to this creative freedom, but to frequent collaborator, stylist Christine Wolheim. Christine and I work together really intuitively- we wanted to stay far away from the expected wine and cheese shots to create moody, sexy, textured images.  The other key player was my friend Colby Eierman- we shot his orchard book together a few years ago, and he manages some of the most impressive gardens in Wine Country. Colby set us up to shoot and harvest from  the gorgeous Stone Edge Farm, and biodynamic winery Benziger. As good looking as his gardens, Colby modeled for us too.  Thanks to my friend Christy Power, who really involved in Sonoma’s food and wine world, we also shot Sonoma’s oldest vines at Bucklin Old Hill Ranch. Many thanks to the great team that made this shoot so fun and rewarding.

Follow Anna Wolf and Mike Perry on their road trip to VT!  Fun concept from Volvo.  Instagram love.

We got this little gem of a promo in the mail this morning.  Yes, Summer is Over…thanks for the reminder…the beautiful reminder.
We love zine promos.  They are super fun to flip through.  Justin Keena uses some fun typography throughout his promo.  It is designed nicely and who doesn’t love an editioned piece!  Thanks Keena.  Good stuff.

We’ve seen a lot of website templates over the years.  We have to say that Square Space templates are pretty beautiful.  Creating a website for your work can be overwhelming and expensive.  Sometimes a template can be just the right solution.  Keep it well edited and clean.  We always call if we like your style and want to see more.

One of the Art Buyers on our blog always asks, “What’s in your shoot bag?”  This one is for her!

We love a photographer with style…Since summer is over we thought we would show some of our favorite back to set finds.

Ona bags are super cool.  We want to use one for our on set bag!  They have that vintage Coach feel for those who like the cross body thing (us) and a nice distressed waxed canvas for those who are a little more casual.  We recently fell in love with wearing a backpack on location.  It’s difficult to find something that isn’t a bottomless pit!  We love their bog and how they feature photographers who carry their wares.  They have a great instagram too.

You can’t go wrong with the classic Filson field bag or the Hadley bag from Billingham.  Isn’t the two tone Filson design nice?  It looks like it was broken in just enough.  These also remind us of the fly fishermen and women in our lives.  Check out Filson’s instagram.  It’s full of fun stuff.

Langley bags are pretty cool too.  They are great for the road tripping travel photographer.  They are spacious enough to pack some personal affects and just have a cool look.  They also have a great instagram that we like to stalk.

Of course there are those of us who aren’t into that whole canvas, throwback look and just want a functional camera bag like the version that Burton makes.  They have a couple of great packs that are a little more traditional, but still clean and easy on the eyes.

Now get out there and make some beautiful imagery for us to post!

When building your team, don’t hire a skill set, instead, says Capecelatro, choose people ‘that you wouldn’t mind going for a hike with after work,’ and trust that, ‘most people will step up to the plate and learn the skills that they need.’

We love Dan Monick.  We are fully obsessed.  He’s awesome.

That is all.
